Colorado Railroad Museum

The Colorado Railroad Museum is a non profit museum located on 15 acres between the North and South Table Mountains in Golden Colorado. The museum was established in 1959. This is a great opportunity for the younger generation to be familiar with Colorado's flamboyant railroad era. The most famous is the narrow gauge mountain railroads.

The narrow gauge rolling stock standing up to 3ft can only be found in the Colorado Railroad Museum. This narrow gauge provides train rides on special events or days known as 'Steam Up Days'. Children can also ride one of the three Geese motorcars on Saturdays. Railway photographers looking for more Denver travel information or photos can get them from the railway equipments displayed outdoors along with the historic Table Mountain in the background.

Another feature of the Colorado Railroad Museum is that it also includes a shady picnic area where families can enjoy at leisure. Therefore it makes a very good choice for both rail fans and families. This museum also houses rare old photographs, artifacts, documents that illustrate the colorful history of the railroads.

Original photographs taken by famous photographers are also another feature of this museum. Denver Area travel visitors can also get to see locomotives and cars used in the ancient times made by the famous Henry Votaow. Every nook and corner of this fantastic museum tells the story of the fascinating railroads.

At the lower level of this museum is the largest operating model train layout. This level is open to the public on the first Thursday of each month until 9:00 pm. It features the different electrics of the Colorado rail history.

The Exhibition Hall also features seasonal and traveling displays pertaining to the railroad history. It also comes with a book and gift shop store that sells a wide range of railroad books, DVD's, railroad toys etc. It is definitely a dream come true for any railroad fans. The Colorado Railroad Museum is open all year round from 9:00 am to 5:00pm.
