Denver Public Library

The Denver public library was established in June 1889. The extension of the building is huge with 540000 square foot premise and it possesses almost 2500000 items of collection. This public library also has mobile libraries as well.

The mission of Denver Public Library is to enrich people with information, ideas and experiences in order to strengthen the community.

The Denver public library prides itself with a massive collection of records related to the western history. It includes 600000 photographs, 3700 manuscripts, 200000 cataloged books, maps, atlases, pamphlets and microfilm. Genealogy section includes 60000 books, hundreds of magazine, newsletter, charts, clippings, atlases and pieces of microfilms.

The Denver public library issues the library card to their members. It is issued to everyone who is a resident of Colorado. This card assigns many privileges and responsibilities to the people.

A person can borrow up to 300 items at one time. They will need to renew their time limit if they need them for a longer duration. The owner of the card is responsible for all borrowed items since some of the items in this library are irreplaceable.

Special services are provided to the people with disabilities as well. Denver public library always works towards giving equal access to all the people. They also use the modern technology to make it possible. Just to name a few of them, they provide equipment to enlarge the printed reading material. They also have a lot of information sources which can be read by the blind or the visually impaired.

Apart from the main library, it has 22 branches and websites. The websites include kid's site, teen site, western history and genealogy site and the Spanish language site. The library commission governs the library. Eight members who are appointed by the mayor constitute it. Regular meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month.
