Arapahoe Basin Ski Area

Arapahoe Basin Ski area can be described as one of the renowned ski areas that is meant for alpine skiing when you travel in Breckenridge. One can indulge in this skiing activity in White River National Forest of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Arapahoe Basin ski area is particularly known for its long season. It remains open until at least early June. Thus, it is better than the other northern ski areas which close in early May.

The summit elevation of this basin ski area is 13,050 feet. This ski area is regarded as one of the highest ski-able terrain in North America. Since this basin ski area has a very high altitude and also because it is mostly north to northeast face, therefore this basin ski area remains open for a much longer time when compared to most of the other resorts in Colorado. Also, this ski area also starts earlier and this basin ski area is known for clientele of hardcore.

The location of Arapahoe Basin Ski area is below the Loveland Pass. One can have a spectacular view of the Continental Divide from the lifts. One can also have great views of Breckenridge, Keystone, Lake Dillon, etc. from the top of the East Wall and the North Pole. The location of this basin ski area is at a distance of 65 miles west of Denver.

There are three lodges that are a part of this Arapahoe basin ski area which can be explored by you when travel to Breckenridge. At the base, there is a coffee bar, bar and a full cafeteria. For warm days, there is a grill also present outside the basin ski area. Though, this basin ski area is mostly known for advanced and expert terrain, however there are some runs for the novice and intermediate skiers also.

The most difficult terrain of Arapahoe Basin Ski area is present on the East Wall. It is possible to reach to the lower east wall without hiking itself. Most of the terrains of the Arapahoe Basin Ski area are prone to avalanches. The East Wall traverse bisects the lower and the upper east wall. This traverse is quite long and this is useful in accessing a territory which is otherwise difficult to reach.
