Red Rocks Park And Amphitheatre

Red Rocks is the only naturally-formed, open-air amphitheatre in the world. In fact, it was once a part of the Seven Wonders of the World and was then addressed as the 'Garden of Angels'.

This geological wonder has been crafted by nature itself and is basically made of steep rock formations, some even higher that the Niagara Falls. Located in the western part of the rocky Denver valley (Colorado), some of the rocky structures have a steep drop of nearly 90 degrees.

Among the many massive monoliths that give the Red Rocks Amphitheatre its unusual shape, one has gained immense popularity due to its unique shape. It is called the Ship Rock since its shape resembles the massive ships that were used in the 18th century. The other popular red sandstone monoliths are the Creation Rock in the northern half and Stage Rock towards the west.

It is due to the presence of this unique geological configuration that Red Rocks Amphitheatre is able to provide the ideal acoustic environment that is needed to host musical performances for Denver Colorado travel visitors.

As a result, it has become famous for staging shows that are hosted within its rocky interiors and can seat nearly 10,000 people at any time. It was during the initial years of the 20th century that John Walker started funding concerts and soon the popularity of Red Rocks Amphitheatre as a musical venue started to gain momentum. Many notable musical performances, particularly those belonging to the Rock & Roll genre, have been held here.

Popular artists/groups that have performed here include globally-recognized names like The Beatles, Ringo Starr, John Denver and U2. It is also popular for hosting local events like high school graduation day parties. Apart from playing host to such events, Red Rocks Amphitheatre is also visited for the famous dinosaur tracks that date back to the Jurassic era.
